A Butler man is accused of pulling a knife on someone during the Spirit of Christmas parade on Saturday.
31-year-old Michael Sparks, 31, is now facing felony assault and other charges, according to Butler City Police.
Sparks had allegedly came to the parade with his family and was standing near Main and Brady streets (by Dunkin Donuts) about 6 p.m. when witnesses told police he had brandished a knife on another man.
Earlier, he had apparently pushed his way to the front of the crowd at the parade with his younger daughter on his shoulders, and some people then asked him to move because their children could no longer see, according to court documents.
“Sparks then turned this into an argument while using vulgar language towards kids and families,” investigators said.
When a man intervened and told Sparks this his language and actions were not necessary, Sparks is accused of brandishing a knife from his holster on his belt and saying, “if you want to fight, let’s fight.”
The weapon was described as a “large fixed blade knife.”
No one was injured.
Sparks was taken to the Butler City Police Department where he gave a full confession, according to court papers.
