A longtime Butler Radio personality and well-known racing enthusiast has died.
Allan “Bud” Daum was a fixture on the Saturday Morning Sports Journal show with Jim Lokhaiser and Bucky Parisi for decades. He also did a morning show on WISR, did the agricultural reports and a Saturday afternoon country western program. The sports journal still airs on WBUT on Saturday mornings.
Daum was also well-known in the racing community and joined Lokhaiser as the hosts of a pre-race show at Lernerville Speedway for years. If you were involved in racing, you knew Bud, according to Lokhaiser.
“We did the pre-race show for a lot of years at the request of Don Martin, who owned the racetrack,” Lokhaiser said. “Bud was the lead man because he knew the racing business and he knew the drivers.”
Lokhaiser said his friend was very proud of that fact that he ran the Daytona Race Track in the late model division when they ran on the beach.
“He was very deeply involved in the automobile racing business, running cars in the late 40s and early 50s,” he said. “He was just unreal. Bud had a little bit of a handicap physically but he overcame that handicap.”
Over the years, he was inducted into several racing halls of fame throughout western Pennsylvania.
Lokhaiser says his friend will be missed.
“Bud was very active in the community,” he said. “He’s the type of guy that everybody just enjoyed being around.”
