Construction will begin Thursday at the site of the former Glade Run Lake in Middlesex Township.
About 60 people are expected to attend the private groundbreaking, including the Butler County Commissioners, representatives from the state Fish and Boat Commission and members of the Glade Run Lake Conservancy.
Today’s groundbreaking has been a long time coming for the conservancy, which was formed after the lake was drained in 2011 for safety reasons because the dam had structural problems.
About $3 million of work will be done on the dam…including the installation of a new spillway, better rock surface and an upgraded internal drainage system.
Construction is expected to last about a year before the lake is then refilled in early 2017.
