The Colorado Rockies pounded the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-5 in a make-up game last evening in Denver. Jeff Locke allowed 11 earned runs on 11 hits over 4-2/3rds innings. David Freese hit a three-run home run for the Bucs.
The Pirates have returned home to host the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at PNC Park. The two teams begin the night tied for second place in the National League Central Division. Both are 32-28 overall, and 10 games behind the Chicago Cubs.
Gerrit Cole will start for the Pirates tonight opposite Michael Wacha for the Cardinals. First pitch is 7:05pm. Hear the game on WISR 680am beginning at 6:40pm.
The Pirates selected third baseman Will Craig last night in the opening round of the Major League Baseball Draft. Last season for Wake Forest, Craig batted .379 with 16 home runs.
The Pirates selected two high school pitchers last night as well.
Alex Kiriloff of Plum high school was selected 15th overall by the Minnesota Twins. Pitcher TJ Zeuch of Pitt was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays 21st, one pick before the Pirates first selection.
