The Toys For Tots program in Butler County will continue this year thanks to the generosity of the owners of a local mall.
Chairman Dennis Johnston says the Clearview Mall in Center Township will allow the organization to operate out of a currently vacant space through the end of the year.
“I am very relieved,” Johnston said.
The local program was in serious jeopardy late this summer after the group could not find a space.
The program, which is run by volunteers through the Bantam Marine Detachment #743 of the Pennsylvania Department of the Marine Corps League, provides Christmas gifts to nearly 3,000 local children each year.
Anyone wishing to donate toys can take them to the mall. Toys For Tots will be running out of the space that formerly held ‘The Deb’ store. You can also drop toys off in various collection boxes around the county. The group is looking for toys for girls and boys, up to 12 years old.
If you would like to sign your child up to receive toys from the program, you can call 724-841-0431 beginning Nov. 1-30.
Officials at the Clearview Mall, which is owned by the J.J. Gumberg Co., were not available for comment on Tuesday.
