As many residents observe Good Friday, some local children will have a brighter Easter season thanks to the efforts of Butler County Community College students.
Vicky Dunkle of Karns City is one of many residents to receive a free Easter Basket, which was delivered to her Thursday.
“I’m a single mom with an autistic child,” Dunkle said. “Just trying to deal with everyday struggles…this is a big thing for me. It will help me and I can add some stuff to it where I’m not going to be spending a load of money doing it.”
This effort was made by members of Butler County Community College’s physical therapy assistant club to help children through the Butler County Alliance for Children.
This is the fourth year of the collection and according to BC3 professor and club advisor Ashlee Esplen, each year the group has been able to fill more baskets than the year before.
“We’ve made it a competition every year,” Esplen said. “Last year’s class was able to put together 99 baskets. This year’s goal was 100 and the students succeeded with 152 baskets.”
The Butler County Alliance for Children is a non-profit organization that supports child victims while coordinating investigations into suspected abuse.
