A local student is competing at a nationwide speaking competition this weekend for a chance at a big scholarship.
Kasea Losch is a junior at Butler High School who will be participating in the final round of the 79th annual American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program in Indianapolis.
The quarterfinals and semifinals will take place on Saturday and narrow the field first from 53 to 9 contenders then from nine to three. The finals will be held on Sunday and three scholarships between $18,000 and $14,000 will be awarded.
Competitors will deliver an 8 to 10 minute rehearsed address as well as a 3 to 5 minute speech on a randomly assigned constitutional topic without notes in front of a live audience. For more information, visit legion.org.
