Legislation proposed by a local lawmaker would reclassify drag performances as “adult-oriented business”.
Republican State Representative Aaron Bernstine whose 8th Legislative District includes part of Butler County recently introduced a bill intended to protect children by banning drag shows on public property or in areas that can be observed by minors.
Bernstine points to a Lancaster drag show that took place a year ago on school property as well as a drag show in Bucks County in October of last year that admitted audience members as young as 13.
If designated as an adult-oriented business, drag shows would be required to protect minors through limits on the location of the performance as well as the age of the intended audience.
