The Mars Area School District is considering a drug screening program for their middle and high school students.
According to our news partners at WPXI, the proposed testing would include students in grades 7 through 12 who participate in a sport or another extra-curricular activity, as well as for students who drive to school.
Officials say that if a student fails their random drug test, they lose the privilege to participate in their sport or clubs, and/or the ability to drive to and park at school. However, there would be no additional punishments for the student if they fail their test.
Another school district in our county, Seneca Valley, has had a similar program within their district for the last 14 years.
