Fourteen municipalities throughout Butler County will receive money to help with projects in their local parks.
The funding is awarded annually through the Butler County Park Renovation Program, which is now in its 23rd year.
“It’s a very visible show of government at work,” Gary Pinkerton, director of county parks, said.
This year, over $110,000 has been awarded in grants, to complete projects including ADA accessibility, the replacement of safety equipment in playgrounds and new bathrooms in parks.

City of Butler: New fall surfacing under existing playground equipment in Butler Memorial Park
Clay Township: Installation of a 64-foot ADA compliant sidewalk and an 8-foot high safety fence
Connoquenessing Borough: Work to the borough’s existing walking trail
East Butler Borough: Installation of a walkway from the East Butler Firehall parking lot to the new playground
Evans City Borough: Handicap parking pads and handrail on sloped sidewalk
Fairview Borough: Replacement of park safety surfacing in the playground
Forward Township: Removal of 24 tree stumps and pouring of concrete pads
Harmony Borough: Replacement of safety surfacing under swings. Replenishing limestone on the existing walking trail
Karns City Borough: Purchase and installation of a safety barrier by the ball field
Lancaster Township: Safety upgrades to play equipment
Marion Township: Removal and installation of existing outfield fencing and baseline fencing
Petrolia Borough: Handicap accessible unisex bathroom facility in the park
Seven Fields Borough: Rubber safety surfaces in playground
Slippery Rock Township: Two-mile walking trail
