A Butler County nurse has been charged after she allegedly wrote prescriptions for herself.
The state Attorney General’s Office has charged 56-year-old Mary Ann Knechtel of Penn Township with insurance fraud and forgery, among other infractions.
According to court documents, Knechtel was a registered nurse at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh between 2012 and 2014 when she would call in fake prescriptions under the names of two physicians. She allegedly obtained thousands of hydrocodone and Vicodin pills.
A pharmacist discovered the scheme. She has since been fired.
