The March of Dimes is holding one of their most important local events of the year in Cranberry Township this weekend.
“It’s a celebration for everyone that has fundraised throughout the year,” Meghan Principe said. “A celebration of families coming together and companies to celebrate that they have made a difference in saving more babies’ lives.”
Principe is the Development Specialist covering Butler County for the March of Dimes. This Sunday, April 23 the organization will hold their annual March for Babies walk at North Boundary Park. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K walk starts at 9:30 a.m.
Local businesses and organizations including Armstrong and UPMC are pitching in with donations of funding and manpower but this year’s ambassador for the event is a little girl from Chicora, Elizabeth Hackwelder.
“Elizabeth was born premature and with some birth defects,” she said. “She attends the School for the Blind in Pittsburgh currently. We’re just grateful that she’s our spokesperson this year and able to be with us at the walk.”
All proceeds raised by this event go toward the mission of the March of Dimes to fund research and education that helps premature babies.
