A local state lawmaker’s bill to reduce the size of the legislature is moving forward.
State Senator Elder Vogel, Jr., who represents the 47th District which includes parts of Butler, Beaver and Lawrence counties, announced that his Senate Bill 488 was approved by the Senate State Government Committee.
The bill would decrease the size of the senate from 50 to 45 districts and decrease the state house from 203 to 153 districts. The change would require an amendment to the state constitution which can only happen after the measure passes a referendum vote from the public.
The bill will next move on to the full state Senate for consideration.
