A local lawmaker is looking forward to answers from the turnpike commission about what exactly happened during last weekend’s snow storm.
According to state Representative Brian Ellis, “Our chairman called hearings and requested that the folks from the turnpike come in and explain how we put Pennsylvanians at risk. How did this happen? What could have been done better? All those questions are going to be asked and hopefully answered next week whenever they have the hearings.”
Ellis represents the 11th District, which includes the City of Butler; Chicora, Connoquenessing, Fairview, Karns City, Petrolia, Prospect and Saxonburg boroughs; as well as Butler, Clearfield, Connoquenessing, Donegal, Fairview, Jefferson, Oakland and Summit townships.
Hundreds of people were stranded on the turnpike in the area around the Allegheny Mountain Tunnel Friday night well into Saturday due to the snow and several accidents.
Ellis believes the answers they get at the hearings could lead to legislation if necessary.
No deaths or serious injuries were reported as a result of the situation.
