A couple of familiar local names have joined leaders across the state in opposition to allowing heavier tractor trailers on roads and bridges.
Butler County Sheriff Michael Slupe and Butler Township Chief of Police John Hays are among 140 signers of a joint letter to state lawmakers concerning pending legislation that would permit heavier truck loads.
The letter points to the recent collapse of the Fern Hollow Bridge in Pittsburgh as evidence that many bridges are in poor condition so heavier trucks could result in extra stress and more dangerous situations.
This effort is organized by the Coalition Against Bigger Trucks with support from organizations such as the PA Chiefs of Police Association, the PA Municipal League, and the PA Sheriff’s Association.
