The VA Butler Healthcare Fire Department and two firefighters in particular were honored Thursday for life-saving actions taken during a fire last month.
As part of a townhall meeting at the Abie Abraham VA Health Care Center in Center Township, Captain Jeremy Simcheck and firefighter Nathan Fitzwater were presented with Hero Awards.
According to Acting VA Butler Healthcare Director Patricia O’Kane, the two men were part of a crew from the VA that responded to a fire call in the city of Butler in early December. The men found an unconscious woman in her burning home and were able to move her to safety.
Butler County Commissioner Kevin Boozel also presented a proclamation from the county recognizing the department for their vital public service and assistance on numerous calls in the community in 2017.
