A couple local fire departments are among those receiving money as a result of recently awarded state grants.
In Butler County, the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department will receive $2,550 and the West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded $3,500.
These grants, administered by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources under the Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant Program, are available to companies serving rural communities.
Funds may be used for purchasing mobile or portable radios, installing dry hydrants, wildfire prevention work, training wildfire fighters, or maintaining excess vehicles to be used for fire suppression.
