Butler senior bowler Greg Wilbert won the Pennsylvania Western Regional championship Friday. Wilbert qualified fourth and won four matches in the step-ladder finals. He defeated Dylan Roberts of Thomas Jefferson 226-221 in the title match. Wilbert moves on to the state championship in two weeks.
Butler wrestler Santino Sloboda won the 127-pound Class 3A West Regional championship Saturday at Canon-McMillan high school. Sloboda remained undefeated this season with a 10-0 major decision over Dalton Wenner of Cranberry in the title match. It was his second Regional championship. Sloboda will be joined by teammate Kase Chopp at the PIAA championships in Hershey this week.
Knoch’s Braylee Ireland won the girls 118-pound West Regional championship Saturday, also at Canon-McMillan. She also moves on to the state championships.
Luke Lamb of Mars won the 100-backstroke at the boys WPIAL Class 3A championships Friday at the Pitt Trees Pool.
Giona Lavorini of Knoch won the girls 100-breastroke at Class 2A championships.
