Those considering a trip out on the water should remember their life jacket.
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission now requires those on boats less than 16 feet in length, as well as kayaks or canoes, to wear a life jacket no matter what state water they are on. This requirement went into effect on Sunday (11/1) and continues through April 30.
Officials say life jackets are especially important in the fall, winter, and spring months as the cold water can cause an involuntary gasp that increases the chances of drowning.
