License plate reading cameras will be installed at what-may-be the busiest intersection in Butler County.
The fixed cameras will be going in to the intersection of Routes 19, 228 and Freedom Road in Cranberry Township.
Officials say as many as 100,000 vehicles pass through that intersection on a daily basis.
It will cost about $40,000 for the cameras, and they will be paid for by the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office. Even though Cranberry is located in Butler County, Allegheny County DA Stephen Zappala has offered the funds to assist in his ongoing effort to create a network of license plate reading cameras across the region.
The cameras will be mounted on traffic poles. The Cranberry Township Board of Supervisors approved the move at their meeting earlier this week.
