Local lawmakers are offering their reaction to President Joe Biden’s state of the union speech.
Republican Congressman Mike Kelly of Butler said in a statement that he was disappointed in the President’s speech. He believes that the speech didn’t address rising everyday costs, the border crisis, or threats posed by China.
“The Democrats’ one-party rule led to record spending, sky-high inflation, and shortsighted energy policies that cost Pennsylvanians thousands of dollars more than they can afford,” Kelly said.
He also said Republicans will protect Social Security and Medicare.
Democratic Senator Bob Casey meanwhile offered support for the President’s address. He touted the new pricing rule for insulin for seniors, infrastructure improvements, and bipartisan legislative achievements.
“Rural communities in Pennsylvania have started to receive what will be billions of dollars to start cleaning up abandoned mine lands and polluted rivers and streams left behind as a result of Pennsylvania’s industrial legacy,” Casey said in a statement. “We’ve got more work to do to tackle the challenges facing working families, but the past two years have shown that the state of our union is strong.”
