It may be hard to believe, but in Pennsylvania there is no minimum age to get married.
The state House Judiciary Committee has approved a bill to set 18 as the minimum age to marry. Currently no such minimum exists, making Pennsylvania one of 27 states in that situation.
Under current law, all that’s needed for someone under 18 to be married is a parent’s permission.
Two state representatives first introduced the bill in January, saying it seeks to protect minors in the state from being forced into marriage with an adult.
The bill won unanimous committee approval and is now before the full state House.
