State lawmakers are still trying to figure out how to pay for the budget.
Republicans who control the chamber unveiled a plan late Wednesday that included a mix of borrowing and new taxes.
Their proposal would borrow $1.3 billion and introduce a new severance tax on Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling. There would also be new or higher taxes on consumers’ natural gas, electric and telecommunication bills.
The legislation is now headed to the Senate floor for a vote today.
Lawmakers need to close a $2 billion hole in the state’s $32 billion budget.
