Lawmakers were unable to pass pension reform legislation in the final hours of the current legislative session Wednesday night.
Republican lawmakers put forward a plan that would change public sector benefits for newly-hired school employees and most state workers, starting in 2018. The measure would offer a choice of hybrid defined benefit & contribution plans, with a third similar to a 401K-style plan.
Democratic leaders said they were left out of the process, and that the plan would not save enough in the long run.
The measure fell short of the votes needed for passage, meaning the issue is off the table until at least next year.
