A state lawmaker plans to re-introduce a bill that would require lead testing for 1-and-2-year olds.
The bill calls for universal testing for lead exposure in expectant mothers, as well as children up to age 2. Health insurers would be required to cover the testing.
Senator Lisa Baker (from eastern PA)- who chairs the Senate Health and Human Services Committee- says required health screenings for newborns and infants currently do not include exposure to lead.
Baker’s bill made it out of committee in the last session, but never made it to a final vote in the full Senate.
