The Midterm Election is Tuesday.
The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. here in Butler County.
Poll workers are hired by the county to staff the different precincts.
Staffing has been a problem in recent years and this year was no different. For the first time, Butler County Elections Director Shari Brewer had to get a court-order to allow poll workers to work both Fairview Township and Fairview Borough for this week’s election. Brewer says it likely won’t be the last time she has to do something like that.
“It’s going to become a bigger issue because we have a shortage of poll workers,” she said in an interview. “It’s a different time now. Both parents are working. People don’t have the ability to do it.”
She has been vocal in pushing for a change in the way we do our elections here in Pennsylvania. Several states have switched to voting centers, where residents from several different townships vote at one place, or vote-by-mail.
