The Pittsburgh Pirates won their third game in a row with a 6-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers last night at PNC Park. Starting pitcher Chad Kuhl won his fifth game of the year, allowing five hits and three runs. He walked one and srtuck out six. He even helped his cause with a two-run single. Felipe Rivero earned his 10th save with a perfect ninth inning. Andrew McCutchen hit his 23rd home run of the season.
The Pirates are now 3-1/2 games back of the Chicago Cubs after the Cubs fell to the San Francisco Giants, also by a 6-3 score. (The Cardinals have won four in a row and are 2-1/2 back, while Milwaukee has lost three in a row and have fallen 1-1/2 games back.)
The Pirates visit Detroit for the next two games beginning tonight at 7:10pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 6:45pm. The Pirates play their next five games in American League parks, which means the use of a designated hitter. The Bucs visit Toronto Friday through Sunday.
