High School Sports Scores from Thursday:
Girls Tennis:
–Knoch junior Laura Greb defeated teammate Brooke Bauer 6-1, 6-2 to win the WPIAL Class 2A Singles championship. It was the third singles championship for Greb, who joins Cate Stewart of Quaker Valley who won three titles from 2005-to-2007, as the only players to win three titles in WPIAL history.
Girls Golf:
–Butler defeated Shady Side Academy 183-205. Butler’s Paige Scott led all golfers with a 36. Butler improved to 9-2 this season. They are 6-2 in section play. The girls host Armstrong Monday at Hiland Golf Course.
–North Allegheny defeated Mars 168-204.
Boys Golf:
–Seneca Valley defeated Knoch 185-219.
Boys Soccer:
–Seneca Valley defeated Butler 2-1.
–North Allegheny-3 Pine-Richland-1.
–Mars and Knoch tied at 3-3 in overtime.
–Freeport-6 Leechburg-0. Trent Parker had his first career hat trick for the Yellow Jackets, who improved to 6-2-1 overall.
–North Catholic-13 New Brighton-0. Joe Kearney had six goals for the Trojans. Ryan Augustine added a hat trick.
Girls Soccer:
–Seneca Valley-4 Norwin-3.
Girls Volleyball:
–Butler earned their first section win with a 3-0 shutout over Fox Chapel. Scores were 25-16, 25-18 and 25-22. Ava Carney had 16 kills and 18 digs to lead the Golden Tornado. Taylor Welter had 12 kills. Sophia Lucas had nine kills and 13 digs. Butler will visit Seneca Valley Tuesday.
