In the Greater Allegheny Conference’s version of the “Backyard Brawl” Friday, Mars was victorious over visiting Knoch 21-0.
Mars’ offense got going early, as Isiah Johnson scored on a 75-yard run on their very first play. The Planets’ offense struck again as time expired in the 2nd quarter to extend their first half lead to 14-0.
As for the Knights, starting quarterback Cole Shinsky was injured midway through the second quarter. After a quarterback keeper, Shinsky was tackled by a host of Planets, and injured his left throwing shoulder. He did not return to the game. Sophomore quarterback Jake Herrit took the reins of the Knoch offense for the rest of the game.
The Knights will be back in action next Friday night, when they host the Indiana Little Indians. Friday will also be Senior Night at Knoch Knight Stadium. You can catch all of the action with Scott Briggs and Dave Bacon on WISR 680AM and on WISR680.com.
