Knoch head football coach Mike King has announced his retirement after 19 seasons. The Knights made the WPIAL playoffs eight times under King’s direction.
Armstrong running back Zane Dudek rushed for 242 yards on 32 carries Friday in a 38-6 win over Kiski. Dudek has set the single-season rushing mark with 2,940 yards. He neesds 28 yards to become the third running back in the WPIAL to rush for over 7,000 yards in his career.
High School Football playoff match-ups will be released by the WPIAL tonight.
District-9 has announced their playoff brackets. In Double-A: Moniteau will meet top-seed Kane Friday at 7pm.
Karns City has received a first-round “bye” in Triple-A. They await the winner of Perry Traditional Academy at St. Mary’s this Friday.
In District-10. Slippery Rock scored 21 points off turnovers Friday to defeate Mercyhurst Prep 28-0 in the opening round of the Class 3-A playoffs. The Rockets will meet Hickory in the semi-finals Saturday.
In 5-A: Grove City defeated Central Tech 43-19 to advance into the semi-finals against Fort LeBoeuf Friday.
College Football over the weekend:
–Penn State pounded Purdue 62-24. The Nittany Lions improve to 6-2 overall, and 4-1 in the Big Ten. They have moved up to #20 in this week’s rankings.
–Slippery Rock lost another game in the final minute, losing to Clarion 27-23 for the first time since 2009. It is the first time in the seven-year history of the “Milk Jug” game that the Golden Eagles have won. The Rock will host Seton Hill this Saturday.
–California remained unbeaten with a 55-14 win at Mercyhurst Saturday. The win sets up an important match-up with Edinboro this Saturday. The Fighting Scots topped Seton Hill 42-34 continuing an impressive turn-around season. Edinboro went winless in 2015, but now are 8-1. If Cal win this week, they advance to the PSAC Championship game against Kutztown. A Cal loss would send IUP to the title game, if the Crimson Hawks beat
Mercyhurst. An IUP loss would allow Edinboro to host the championship game.
Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi has been fined $5,000 by the ACC for being critical of officiating during Pitt’s loss to Virginia Tech last Thursday.
Florida State head coach Jumbo Fisher was fined $20,000 for criticizing officials after the Seminoles lost to Clemson Saturday.
