The Knoch Boys basketball team reached a milestone Thursday night with a win over neighboring Deer Lakes. The Knight’s 78-58 victory – their 15th consecutive win of the season – was the 800th “w” in school history dating back to the 1958-59 season. All-time the Knights are 800-606.
Knoch jumped out to a 22-11 first quarter lead and never looked back despite the Lancers cutting into a 20 point margin in the fourth quarter. Knoch’s 46-22 halftime lead was cut to 13 as the Knights let off the gas a bit in the second half, but midway through the final frame Knoch mashed the peddle and stopped the Lancer’s run. Knoch sophomore Ryan Lang led all scorers with 25 points, while seniors Scott Fraser, Brady McKee and Jake Scheidt each added 11. Deer Lake’s Jack Hollibaugh led the Lancers with 13.
The Knights, ranked #1 in class 4A by most polls, will take to the floor again Friday night as they host conference foe Yough in Saxonburg. The Cougars are winless in section play while Knoch is 6-0. The Knight’s biggest test comes up Tuesday when they travel to Highlands to face the Golden Rams. WISR will carry both games beginning at 7:15 on 680AM, wisr680.com, and on the Trib Live High School Sports Network.
