High School Sports Scores from Thursday:
Baseball:
Knoch defeated Montour 7-2 yesterday and have reached the WPIAL semi-finals next week. They will face Blackhawk.
Mars also reached the semi-finals with a 3-0 win over Hopewell. They will meet Chartiers Valley next week.
In boys volleyball: Seneca Valley defeated Norwin 3-0 and will face Penn Trafford next Tuesday in the WPIAL semi-finals.
Knoch high school’s Jordan Geist set another WPIAL record with a thrwon of 72′-7″ in winning the shot put throw at the WPIAL Individual championships Thursday. The throw broke a 44-year old record. Geist won the Triple-A event by more than 14-feet over the runner-up, and he also won the discus event by more than 21-feet.
The Butler girls track & field team had two new school records set at the WPIAL Championships at Baldwin high school Thursday. Emily Horstman won the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, setting a new school record in the 200. The 1600-meter relay team of Horstman, Shana Hoy, Liz Simms and Alexis Leech set a new school record and won that event. Leech was runner-up in the 400 and Simms, a freshman was second in the 800. They all have advanced to the state championships, along with Taylor Weaver who was third in the pole vault. The 400-meter relay team of Alexis Glew, Odile Ensel, Horstman and Hoy were sixth, but also advanced to the state championships by meeting the state qualifying time.
Knoch’s Mandie Moxie qualified for the state event with a third in the 1600-meter run. Seneca Valley’s Jordan Jamieson was third in the discus.
Freeport’s Zoe Pawlak was third in the Double-A javelin.
Seneca Valley’s Mike Kolor won the 800 and the 1600-meter events. Butler’s Noah Beveridge was fifth in the 1600-meter run and advanced to next week’s state championships at Shippensburg University.
Dylan Hochbein of Freeport won the Double-A 300-meter hurdles. Freeport’s Robert Reichenbaugh qualified for states in the 800-meter run. Reichenbaugh, Brandon and Dylan Hochbein and Kevin Lynch were the winning 1,600-meter relay team. The Freeport girls 3,200-meter relay team were third.
