A former Butler County resident has officially been charged in Florida for the murder of her coworker.
Kimberly Kessler, 50, was indicted Friday by a grand jury for the murder of 34-year-old Jolene Cummings. Kessler was charged with first-degree, pre-meditated murder.
The two worked together at a Florida hair salon. Cummings has been missing since May and Kessler was immediately named a suspect.
Officials believe it’s been 14 years since Kessler has been in Butler County. She’s thought to have lived in 14 different states under 18 aliases since then.
“I’m not sure what she was hiding from, but this time she came to the wrong county and messed with the wrong people,” Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper said during a news conference on Friday. “Hopefully she will never have the opportunity to do anything like this ever again.”
Authorities believe Kessler was the last person to see Cummings alive on May 12 at the Tangles Hair Salon in Nassau County, Florida where the two worked.
The motive for the murder remains unclear. Cummings body has not been found.
“Kessler is the person who knows where Joleen is and, unfortunately, she has not provided that information,” Leeper said. “We will continue our efforts to search for Joleen wherever we have credible evidence and our prayers are that she will be found.”
