A local lawmaker is joining with colleagues to introduce a bill that would create jobs as well as another that impacts how some students are granted financial aid.
Republican U.S. Congressman Mike Kelly of Butler recently helped to introduce the “New Markets Tax Credit Extension Act”.
This act would make the New Markets Tax Credit Act permanent, index the allocation to inflation in future years, and exempt NMTC investments from the alternative minimum tax. Kelly maintains that this program revitalizes neighborhoods and has created over 500 new jobs across three projects in his district.
Kelly also sponsored the Family Farm and Small Business Exemption Act. Previously, assets found on family farms and small businesses were exempt from being assessed as part of a family’s net worth but last year the FAFSA Simplification Act altered the federal formula for determining student aid.
