Pittsburgh Pirates closer Mark Melancon has been named the 2015 winner of the Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year Award. The award was presented before Game 2 of the World Series Wednesday.
Melancon led all Major Leaguers with 51 saves and a 96 save percentage (51-of-53), helping the Pirates to a 98-64 record, second-best in Major League Baseball. He converted a club record 35 straight save opportunities, set a career high with 78 appearances and was named to the National League All-Star team for the second time in his career.
The Kansas City Royals defeated the New York Mets 7-1 last night and have taken a 2-0 lead in the World Series. Royals starter Johnny Cueto pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits. Game three moves to New York tomorrow night.
The Washington Nationals have hired Bud Black has their new manager. Black began last season in San Diego, but was fired after the Padres had a slow start.
