Pittsburgh Pirates closer Mark Melancon has been named the 2015 winner of the Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year Award. The award was presented before Game 2 of the World Series Wednesday.
Melancon led all Major Leaguers with 51 saves and a 96 save percentage (51-of-53), helping the Pirates to a 98-64 record, second-best in Major League Baseball. He converted a club record 35 straight save opportunities, set a career high with 78 appearances and was named to the National League All-Star team for the second time in his career.
The Kansas City Royals defeated the New York Mets 7-1 last night and have taken a 2-0 lead in the World Series. Royals starter Johnny Cueto pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits. Game three moves to New York tomorrow night.
