The Karns City Gremlins won their fourth District-9 Double-A title on Friday with a 43-6 victory over Moniteau. They are the first Double-A team to do so. Collin Dunmyre led the Gremlins with 113 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Chandler Turner added 109 yards. Karns City will now host District 5-8 champion Bedford this Friday in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs. Kick-off is 7pm.
All three Butler County teams fell in the WPIAL semi-finals Friday. Jeanette defeated Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 22-14 in Single-A. Aliquippa downed Freeport 36-14 in Double-A. And in the Triple-A semi-finals, Mars fell to Central Valley 48-41. In Quad-A: Penn-Trafford defeated Pine-Richland 38-34.
The WPIAL Football Championships will be held at Heinz Field Saturday. Clairton and Jeanette will open the day with the Single-A championship game at 11am. The Quad-A title game begins at 2pm between Central Catholic and Penn-Trafford. The Double-A game between Aliquippa and South Fayette has a 5pm kick-off. At 8pm Central Valley and Thomas Jefferson in the Triple-A title game.
The Seneca Valley boys soccer team fell 2-0 to Central Bucks East in the state championship game Saturday. Central Bucks finished the season 26-0. The Raiders finished 18-3-1.
