High School Soccer Playoffs:
The Karns City Boys Soccer team defeated St. Mary’s 4-0 last night to win their second consecutive District 9 Class 2A championship. The Gremlins will meet District 5 champion Somerset in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs next Tuesday.
The Karns City Girls Soccer team also claimed the District 9 2A title with a 3-2 victory over previously unbeaten Clearfield in the championship game. Sarah Dodd nailed a penalty kick in overtime to win the game. McKenna Martin scored twice for the Gremlins, who will meet the WPIAL 2A runner-up next Tuesday. (the loser of the North Catholic-Avonworth game).
In District 10 – Fairview defeated the Grove City Boys 2-1 in overtime for the 2A championship.
WPIAL Soccer Championships at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh:
–The Quaker Valley Boys Soccer team won the WPIAL Class 2A championship last night with a 5-0 win over North Catholic.
–The Moon Girls defeated Seneca Valley 4-0 to win the 4A championship.
Both Butler County teams will still move on to the state tournament.
–The North Catholic Girls will meet Avonworth for the 2A title at 11am.
–The Mars Girls will take on Plum in the 3A title game at 1:15pm.
–The Seneca Valley Boys will face Peters Township in the 4A championship game at 5:45pm.
WPIAL Girls Volleyball Championships at the UPMC Events Center in Moon Saturday:
–North Catholic will meet Avonworth in the 2A championship at 3:30pm.
–Freeport will take on Hampton for the 3A title at 5:30pm.
–North Allegheny gets Shaler in the 4A championship game at 7:30pm.
24 Cross Country Runners from Butler County schools will be competing at the PIAA championships this weekend in Hershey.
