The Karns City girls basketball team defeated Kane 53-38 last night in the District-9 Double-A semi-finals, and have reached the District-9 championship game for the third consecutive season. Emily Hegedus led the Gremlins with 19 points. LeeAnn Gibson added 14.
Moniteau defeated Redbank Valley 40-33 in the other D9 semi-final. Kristina DeMatteis led the Warriors with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Moniteau and Karns City will play for the Double-A title and a bid to the PIAA playoffs Saturday at Clarion University.
The Mars boys basketball team fell to Beaver Falls 59-58 in the WPIAL Triple-A semi-finals last night at Ambridge high school. Beaver Falls moves on to face Highlands in the title game. Highlands upset top seed New Castle 79-76 in overtime. Mars has qualified for the PIAA playoffs.
Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic upset top seeded Monessen 79-77 in overtime last night and will meet Sewickley Academy in the WPIAL championship Friday night at the Petersen Events Center.

In the Southwest Christian Athletic Conference playoffs: The Portersville Christian boys will meet First Baptist Christian in the semi-finals tonight after defeating Evangel Heights last night 59-32. First Baptist topped Wilson Christian 58-45. Tip-off is 5:30pm at Portersville Christian.
Also tonight the Portersville Christian girls meet Evangel Heights Christian in the semi-finals. The game begins at 5:30pm at Wilson Christian.
