A Butler County judge has dismissed a gas well zoning appeal in Middlesex Township.
This means that various shale natural gas operations will be allowed in much of the township. The ruling also lifts a court-mandated stay on five gas wells on the Geyer property on Denny Road. Operations will soon reconvene at that well site.
In August 2014, the township supervisors voted to approve the zoning amendment. In May, the zoning board unanimously voted to uphold that amendment. It was then challenged by several township residents, the Delaware Riverkeeper Network and the Clean Air Council.
