Jimmie Johnson locked his spot in the Nascar Sprint Cup Chase final four with a victory Sunday at Martinsville Speedway. It was his ninth victory at the short track and qualifies him for a shot at his seventh series championship. Brad Keselowski was the runner-up. Joe Gibbs Racing drivers Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth and defending series champion Kyle Busch complete the top five. The next race is in Texas next weekend.
With Sunday’s victory, Hendrick Motorsports has won the last five fall races at Martinsville. Rick Hendrick leads all Cup Series owners with 24 wins at the Virginia half-mile.
Johnny Sauter won Saturday’s Truck Series race at Martinsville and clinched a spot in the Championship Four of the inaugural Truck Series Chase.
