An area health provider is revisiting a proposed merger.
Jameson Health System announced Wednesday that they are issuing a new solicitation for merger or acquisition proposals. This move comes at the request of the state Attorney General’s Office.
Following an earlier review of potential partnerships, Jameson previously agreed to merge with UPMC, but the AG has now asked the health provider to engage in a wider search. The AG’s office reportedly provided a list of more than 20 for-profit and nonprofit providers from Jameson to purse. Their concern is that a merger between Jameson and UPMC could establish an unfair market share in the region and drive up medical costs.
Proposals are due in 30 days but UPMC has reaffirmed their commitment to the merger through the end of this year.
Jameson Health System is located in Lawrence County.
