Indiana University of Pennsylvania is moving forward with a plan to slash tuition as it looks to increase enrollment.
IUP’s council of trustees formally approved the move to a flat-rate tuition for students regardless of how many credits you take. That means some students could see a 20 percent reduction in tuition.
We spoke with IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll who said they believe the plan will work out financially.
“I think we’re on this path for the foreseeable future at this point,” Driscoll said. “I really think the additional work we’ll be doing is where else can we make changes in our cost structure and how we charge things to students.”
He also said that this move is a part of their strategic plan moving forward and that they won’t look back.
“I’m not at the point right now where we have a Plan B because this is our plan based on what our students need today,” Driscoll said.
The flat tuition rate works out to just over $7,000 per year and could begin as soon as this fall semester.
