It’s a big day in the race for the White House as voters will caucus in Iowa Monday…and who they favor for president could influence the rest of the country, and us here in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania voters are following national trends when it comes to their preferences in the race for President, at least according to Dr. Terry Madonna, Political Science Professor at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster and Director of the Franklin and Marshall College Poll.
“If you look at the national polls, the ranking are Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio on the Republican side. Our polls here in Pennsylvania are mirroring that exactly,” Madonna said.
What about on the Democratic side?
“Hillary Clinton still continues to lead (in the F&M poll) but Bernie Sanders has gained 11 points since our last poll in October. That too, is very consistent as to what we are seeing nationally,” he said
If you haven’t made up your mind yet, the good news is…you still have some time.
“We still have a fair number of voters in Pennsylvania who have not made up their mind,” Madonna said. “We have to remember we don’t cast votes in this state until late April.”
There has been some push recently to move up Pennsylvania’s primary as to make us more significant in the presidential race. For now though, our primary stands on Tuesday, April 26.
Following the Iowa caucuses Monday, the next state in the political spotlight will be New Hampshire. Their primary is next Tuesday, Feb. 9.
