Students could see more Pennsylvania State Police officers in their schools.
The new procedure reflects input from meetings recently held statewide regarding school safety. It was a common theme that people wanted to see more officers during the school day.
A state trooper will now be required to check in on educational facilities in their area at least once per shift. This will be required in areas where state police are the primary law enforcement agency. State troopers will visit schools in areas where they are not the primary agency as time permits.
Officials say parents should not be alarmed if they see an increased state police presence at their child’s school or hear about a trooper making an appearance in the cafeteria at lunchtime.
