An inaugural “Walk 93” will raise funds for the building and maintenance of trails at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Somerset County near Shanksville, Pa.
The September 26th walk will begin with a tour of the site’s new visitor center. A non-competitive walk will follow along the 2.28-mile Allee Walkway, Wetlands Bridge and Western Overlook Trail.
“Walk 93 will highlight one of our new experiences at Flight 93 National Memorial; the trails,” Stephen Clark, Superintendent of the Western Pennsylvania National Parks, said in a statement. “We want both current and future visitors to experience this memorial landscape.”
The walk will allow participants to reflect on the events of September 11, 2001 and the lives lost aboard United Flight 93. The plane crashed in a field, killing all 40 passengers and crew members died.
Registration opened Monday. Participants can register online here or complete and mail the attached registration form with payment to Walk 93, P.O. Box 911, Shanksville, PA 15560.
The registration fee for adults age 18 and older is $25, youth age 13-17, $12, and children 12 and under are free. Adults and youth receive a shirt with their registration. Children’s shirts can be purchased for a small fee.
Individuals and businesses can support Walk 93 by donating to the Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial, the official 501 c (3) nonprofit partner of Flight 93 National Memorial.
