Members of the Pennsylvania National Guard have been deployed to the Carolinas as Hurricane Florence makes landfall on Friday morning.
The staging area is a National Guard Base near Columbia, South Carolina. The crew includes approximately 25 PA Guard members and six technicians from the Fish and Boat Commission in support of PA HART, the Pennsylvania Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team.
The troops will mainly be conducting water rescues, with officials saying they’ll remain in the region as long as needed.
Fourteen people from Western Pennsylvania- including one from Butler County- are among the Red Cross volunteers that have headed to the East Coast to assist areas that will be hit by Hurricane Florence.
