There was at least one incident during opening day. A 45-year-old man was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital after he fell 15 feet from his tree stand.
Buffalo Township Fire Chief Matt Cypher said the fall happened about 2 p.m. in woods behind Lernerville Speedway.
“He got a deer and as he was attempting to get down from the tree stand to field dress it, he fell,” Cypher said.
Firefighters and EMS personnel had to figure out how to get back to the hunter, who was approximately a quarter of a mile into the woods.
“We used the track access and our utility vehicle to make a path,” he said.
According to Cypher, the man, who was not identified, suffered multiple fractures to his leg but was conscious and alert. His current condition is unclear.
“He seemed in good spirits, just a little frustrated,” Cypher said.
