More than 100 people showed up in downtown Butler on Saturday to participate in a drug awareness walk.
The Walk of Hope was coordinated by the Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church’s Hope for Broken Hearts support group.
Organizer Charlene Eckert said she continues to work to bring attention to the drug problem in our town, while at the same time offering hope to both addicts and their families that recovery is possible.
“Recovery does work,” Eckert. “But it’s hard. And families need to recover as well, just like addicts need to recover. But, people can get better and families can grow again.”
This was the fifth year for the event.
2017 was another record-breaking year for the number of fatal drug overdoses in Butler County. According to the Butler County Coroner’s Office, 92 people died.
