As the downtown Butler Main Street light replacement project moves closer to completion, the timing of the process has led to the decision to not put up the city’s holiday lights this year.
According to City Engineer Joe Gray, said the new poles will be installed in December. Gray said the old poles that were taken down years ago with only the bases remaining are in the process of being removed and will be replaced with four foot high bollard lights in the next couple weeks.
The long lead time between ordering and receiving the larger poles is what ultimately resulted in the decision to skip the decorations this year but the rest of the project continues to move forward on schedule. Crews did encounter some obstacles working with old conduits while trying to run wires underground.
Including a few additional lights along with an increase in the amount of wire and conduit needed, the project is currently slightly over the cost originally budgeted.
