Butler City Council has finalized an agreement to remove the city’s Bantam Jeep from the Butler County Historical Society and place it in the care of a local antique car association. Butler City Mayor Tom Donaldson.
“This arrangement will ensure that both vehicles are properly cared for at all times and properly made available to all groups interested in the city whether it’s the Historic Society, the City, Jeep Festival, anything going on, these vehicles will be properly presented.”
After hearing from members of the Butler Old Stone House Chapter of the American Antique Car Association in recent months, Council approved the plan by unanimous vote Thursday night.
This agreement is similar to the one that already exists between the club and the city with regard to the city-owned 1909 Huselton. The vehicle transfer will take place in the near future and according to Donaldson, the association is doing a great service to the city.
“We appreciate them taking the interest in these vehicles because if it was up to the city to maintain them, they’d be sitting in a garage; just exactly what they don’t need to be doing. Nobody would see them. So we appreciate your hard work with everything you do. That’s not to say the other car clubs don’t do a good job. You’re doing the job for us and thank you.”
The agreement also contains a commitment by the club to further support the care of these vehicles by giving the city money to pay for insurance.
